Contest: Write a LEGO Universe Haiku!

Do you dream in syllables? Do you feel the need to write poetry in Japanese plum gardens? Have you ever turned in a book report written entirely in haiku form? Whether you’re an aspiring haiku newbie or a zen master of 19 syllable rhyme, you should participate in September’s monthly contest by writing your very own LEGO Universe-themed haiku!

For those of you who aren’t familiar with haiku, here’s a quick summary: haiku is a traditional form of short Japanese poetry that uses a limited number of syllables to rhyme. There are two poplar types of haiku – ones with 3/5/3 or 5/7/5 tempos.

A 3/5/3 haiku uses 3 syllables in its first line, 5 in its second line, and 3 in its third line, like so:

lone Stromling
prancing in the field
picks flowers

A 5/7/5 haiku uses 5 syllables in its first line, 7 in its second line, and 5 in its third line, like so:

Nexus Tower built!
who sells all the cool items?
it’s a Mr. Ree

Your LEGO Universe haiku can be sad or meaningful:

Stromling Admiral…
why dost thou shoot at me so?
bullies don’t make friends

Or tender and romantic:

beautiful Sky Lane!
hair so lovely, smirk so cute!
melt my plastic heart

Or just ridiculous and silly:

back in days of yore
fancy pants were often called
fancy pantaloons

There are literally millions of possible haikus that you could write! To enter, upload your best LEGO Universe-themed haikus to the Official LEGO Universe Haiku Contest Entry Thread between September 1st and September 30th, 2011. Three winners from the 12 & under and 13 & older age groups will win a prize pack worth writing home about, and have their winning haikus featured on the LEGO Universe website!
